Gorkha
Gorkha district is a part of Gandaki zone is one of the seventy-seven districts of Nepal and connected historically with the creation of the modern Nepal and the name of the legendary Gurkha soldiers . The district, with Pokharithok (Gorkha) later known as Prithivi Narayan Nagarpalika as its district headquarters, covers an area of 3,610 square kilometres. It is the location of the Manakamana Temple. Also, the temples of great sage Gorakhnath and Goddess Gorakhkali temple is located in district, after which the district got its name. Four major rivers run within and along it, they are Chepe, Daraudi, Marsyangdi and Budhi Gandaki.
King Prithvi Narayan Shah the founder of modern Nepal was born in Gorkha. Gorkha can be reached in about six hours by road from Kathmandu and four hours from Pokhara. A 25 kilometres road off the main highway connecting Pokhara and Kathmandu brings you to an Ancient Gorkha - the untouched and captivating town of Nepal. The small town of Gorkha lays 142 kilometres north west of the capital Kathmandu and is easily reached within Six to Seven hours by Bus. The 106 kilometres from Pokhara to Gorkha takes just four hours.
The great King Prithvi Narayan Shah unifying the Nepal in the eighteenth century succeeded in conquering the Kathmandu valley. Since the capital of Nepal was shifted to Kathmandu. But this beautiful township has always remained as the Centre of attraction for many. Situated on a hill with the snowy peaks of the Himalaya in the background is a beautiful Old Palace (Durbar) known as Gorkha Durbar. There are two beautiful temples of Gorakhanath and Kali inside the palace worth visiting. Gorkha lies midway between Pokhara and Kathmandu. It is also the home of the legendary Gorkha warriors. The town was once the capital of Nepal and housed the palace of the great king Prithvi Narayan Shah. Apart from the palace and temples, the natural beauty also makes it a favourite with tourist and trekkers.
Trek or hike one thousand seven hundred steps (1700), in about two hours to the Gorkha Palace is on the top of a hill. The view from the summit will be worth the climb. If the sky is cloudless and there is no fog, you can see the Himalayas. The palace is embellished with wooden carvings and engravings. Trekkers can find many lovely trails originating from Gorkha like the Gorkha - Pokhara route or go on day trips to nearby Luitel and Ghatpokhari. The most popular trekking from Gorkha is to Pokhara, which is of 10 days. First day complete sightseeing of the Gorkha palace, second day onwards trekking from Gorkha - Luitel - Hirmantar - Tarkughat - Besisahar - Ghattekhola - Gharpokhari - Rupatal - then arrive pokhara on the 10th day
There is the holy cave temple of Gorkhanath. A trip to Manakamana Temple on the way is interesting and on the west side of palace is the Temple of goddess Gorakhkali. There is also a famous cave sheltering the statue of Gorakhnath baba (sage). It is believed that the name of Gorkha was derived from the name of this sage, whose blessings inspired king Prithvi Narayan Shah for the unification of Nepal. From the top of the hill above Gorkha Palace the view of mount Manaslu and mount Himalchuli is spectacular. The best place to have a view of the palace and peaks is Upallokot a viewpoint made on a pedestal over the hill at the height of some 5000 feet. Other important site is Mankamana temple. The place lays on a beautiful ridge southeast of the township of Gorkha. On a beautiful ridge south-east of the township of Gorkha is the holy temple of Manakamana, the goddess of aspirations. It is a famous pilgrimage site for Hindus. Manakamana is 4 hour's walk uphill from anbu khaireni on Kathmandu - Pokhara highway. Nepal is beautiful beside its tourism destination; it is also home to some of the exotic wildlife parks and sanctuaries that include Chitwan National Park, Rara National Park, Sagarmatha National Park, Makalu National Park, etc. This beautiful country is must visit once in a lifetime as the country is globally acclaimed for its not only scenic beauty, heritage attractions, adventure tourism, leisure holiday, temple tour, but also for its friendly environment, world class accommodation facilities and warm hospitality of the people.

Railways – There is no Railway system here. It is limited to south Nepal and on the border of Nepal in India from three drive via any border entry and then drive or fly to Kathmandu and next to the required destination by flight or by road.
